Dear Parents and Guardians of 6th grade students,
This letter is to inform you about band and your child’s progress thus far. It is also intended to give you as parents the tools to assist your child in their musical instrument learning.
Your child should be practicing DAILY for ten to fifteen minutes. Keep in mind we only meet for music once a week for a period of fifty minutes. That is NOT enough time to make any sort of progress. Practice must happen at home as well.
We will be having our cluster band concert at Henry Ford High School Tuesday April 25th. I have given the students a piece of paper with all the songs as well as the note names that will be played at this concert. Many have lost theirs and as a result I am attaching a sheet for you and your child to this letter. These songs are also in the band books. This is just an easier way to quickly pull out and practice all the songs.
Speaking of the books, each student should have an Essential Elements 2000 band book for their specific instrument. There are a good number of students without a book at this time. Not having a book is like having a car without the keys. The books can be found at any music store or bought online.
Please, please, please, help support your child’s musical learning this year. Many students have voiced concerns that display negative attitudes and the performances are echoing this attitude as well. We are not nearly as far as we should be at this time of the year. You as parents have made an investment in renting/purchasing instruments and we all want to see that investment flourish and prosper.
Please sign this form and return it to your child’s teacher by Thursday January 19th. If I do not receive the letters by then, I will be making phone calls to be sure you received the letter.
Together in learning,
Mrs. Julie Bogoski
